Flawless blue diamond - The most expensive gemstone in the world


One the rarest gems in the world has has been snapped up by Moussaieff jeweller of London for a record-breaking sum of almost $7.98 million.
One of the rarest gems in the world, a flawless blue diamond, has sold for $7.98 million at a Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong.The auction was held on monday, October 8th, 2007. The bidding on the most expensive diamond lasted only 8 minutes and was, reportedly, fierce.
This makes it the most expensive gemstone in the world, per carat, sold at auction.
The diamond in question is of a blue hue and quality cut.
After intense bidding, the 6.04 carat, internally flawless blue diamond fetched $1.32 million per carat.
The price smashed a 20-year-old record held by the Hancock Red - a red diamond .
